Stretch fabrics were in the beginning used in swimsuits and for women's underwear. Fashion designers began using them as early as the mid-1980s. They entered the mainstream market in the early1990s.
The A-line style on jackets, coats, dresses and skirts is narrow at the top and flared at the bottom, an A-shape. The model was originally created at Dior 1954-1956 and has since then been updated repeatedly over the years. It is said that Dior was inspired by the shape of the Eiffel Tower.
